Diagnosis of solid waste recovery in the serrana mesoregion of Santa Catarina

The proper management of solid waste is a responsibility of all public administrations to ensure the correct disposal of waste and minimize its environmental impacts. This research aimed to conduct a diagnosis of solid waste recovery in the Serrana Mesoregion of Santa Catarina. To this end, were used data from the National System of Basic Sanitation Information (SINISA) and the Institute of the Environment (IMA). It was identified the municipalities that responded to the system, quantify the total amount of waste generated and recovered in each municipality, and checked for the presence of Voluntary Delivery Points (PEVs) in the Mesoregion. It was realized a low rate of responses, 10% of the municipalities of Mesoregion responded about the solid waste recovery. It is highlighted that the information gap reinforces the importance of filling in constante data, demanding strategys like, training the responsibles of filling the public platforms and amplification of areas with PEV’s, for obtaining trustworthy informations and to expand the rate of solid waste recovery in the Serrana Mesoregion.
