Abstract

Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura, 1931) (Diptera: Drosophilidae) is a small fruit pest adapted to temperate climate regions with the potential to cause considerable losses. The objective was to evaluate and compare the population fluctuation and natural infestation of D. suzukii in strawberry, blackberry, and raspberry crops in Lages, Santa Catarina. For monitoring, three fly traps baited with Droskdrink food attractant were installed in each crop. Weekly, between September 2021 and August 2022, the attractant was renewed, and captured insects were collected, sorted, sexed, and quantified in the laboratory. For the natural infestation of D. suzukii, fruits were randomly collected from the three species, individualized, and stored under controlled conditions (23±2°C, 65±10 RH, and 12h photoperiod) for 15 days, when the count of emerged adults was performed. The data were analyzed in the R environment. The total number of adults captured during monitoring ranged from 0 to 205 with a mean of 38.14±45.66, 0 to 622 with a mean of 92.58±126.71, and 0 to 126 with a mean of 15.17±20.19 for strawberry, blackberry, and raspberry, respectively. In all natural infestation evaluations, the emergence of D. suzukii adults was observed in the three crops. It is concluded that D. suzukii is present and infesting fruits in strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry crops in Lages, SC, with a preference for blackberry.
